The region is a paradise for hikers, as there are numerous hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty, from easy family tours to challenging mountain tours.
Mountain bikers can look forward to adventurous trails that lead over hill and dale, while riders can gallop through lush meadows and forests.
The Völserweiher is a beautiful mountain lake that is very popular for swimming in summer, while golfers can play the 18-hole golf course, which is open from March to November thanks to its climatic conditions and covers an area of 60 hectares.
Winter
Skiing in the most beautiful mountains in the world, the Alpe di Siusi ski area, in the heart of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Reachable in just a few minutes with the Seiser Alm cable car, Europe’s largest high alpine pasture delights with around 60 kilometres of pistes of all levels of difficulty Together with the neighbouring ski area of Val Gardena, there are even 175 kilometres of pistes, all of which are 100% snow-sure throughout the winter until Easter, thanks to technical snowmaking.
In addition to the perfectly groomed slopes, there is a magnificent panorama, modern mountain railways and a good selection of rustic huts. The Alpe di Siusi also offers direct access to the Sellaronda, the famous ski tour around the Sella massif.
Tradition
Castelrotto, Siusi and the surrounding area are known for their beautiful landscapes and for traditional highlights.
One of the best-known traditions in Castelrotto is the Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride, which takes place every year in June. This ride commemorates the famous minstrel Oswald von Wolkenstein and attracts thousands of visitors.
Castelrotto is also famous for its traditional festivals and celebrations, such as the Flower Festival in spring or the Törggelen in autumn, where the harvest is celebrated and typical local specialities such as chestnuts and wine can be tasted.
There are numerous sights in Siusi, such as the pilgrimage church of St. Valentine, Prösels Castle or the local history museum, which gives an insight into the life and culture of the region. Here, too, you can go hiking in the beautiful nature and enjoy the peace and beauty of the surroundings.
Excursions to South Tyrol’s cities
Castelrotto is also an ideal starting point for exploring other parts of South Tyrol. By bus and train, numerous places such as Brixen, Bozen, Meran and many others are easy to reach.
Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, offers many cultural and historical sights such as the famous archaeological museum with the glacier mummy “Ötzi”.
Bressanone, a charming medieval town with an impressive cathedral and many other historic buildings, can also be reached quickly and easily from Castelrotto by public transport.
Merano, the beautiful spa town in the heart of South Tyrol, offers numerous attractions such as Trauttmansdorff Castle, the Franz Tappeiner Museum and the famous Merano Thermal Baths.
